My 5-year old daughter has been a fan of pirates for a couple of years. She even dressed up as one for Halloween last year. So when I saw the Pirate’s Life 6×6 by Echo Park, I knew it would be fun to use for my 6×6 Paper Pad Tutorial.  I made a total of 29 cards.

Here are all the leftover scraps. When the pieces are smaller than 1 1/4″, I generally don’t use them anymore. After all, I still have lots and lots of 6×6 paper pads to use.

I have been asked several times how many sheets of cardstock I use on average for my tutorial. This can definitely vary depending on if I use solid cardstock verses patterned paper for the card background. I did keep track this time though and used a total of 22 sheets of cardstock, including the black for layering.

Here are the pictures of all the cards I made, including sketches and measurements. Operation Write Home sketches are the only ones that already provide measurements. For all the other sketches, I simply figure the measurements out on my own, for what works for me. Go HERE to see my video explaining how I determine card sketch measurements.

  • I just love love love your work !!! Question for example on Sweet Sunday #203 when the measurement for the banner says 4 3/4 x 1 3/8 then you add cotton layer or is the bottom layer the 4 3/4 and then you a the top layer?. Hope this was not a confusing question
    Thank You

  • Thank you, Nanci! The measurements listed would be for the top layer/patterned paper. Then I generally add 1/8" more to that measurement for the matted layer.

  • Wow, Kristie! Not only are these fantastic pirate cards for the W2SB Ahoy Matey Challenge but **BONUS** – wonderful tutorial too! So happy you shared your uber-talented skills with us! Thanks so much! ~ Annie

  • Kristie!

Well, you've done it again with another great video! You sure do know how to rock these 6 by 6 pads. 🙂

And, you rocked our pirate-themed challenge at Words 2 Scrap By! Thanks so much for playing along. 🙂

  • Awesome. Thanks for the tutorials and the card measurements.
What's the name of your tape machine and where can I purchase one?

  • I use a Scotch ATG (Advanced Tape Glider) glue gun. The refills are inexpensive, especially when bought in bulk, and it's super sticky. I've seen it at local craft stores and on Amazon.

  • I use ATG tape and each roll is 36 yards. I average between 2 and 3 rolls per 6×6 (a 24-sheet one). So I would say around 270-325 feet. Since I buy a full case of refills, they cost less than one dollar per roll. I want to make sure my cards stay together, so I don't skimp on adhesive.

  • I buy refills from The Tape Depot and watch for their sales. They will have a 10 – 15% off coupon once in a while. Great time to stock up on refills.

  • Kristie I am so sorry to be a pain in the … But these tapes are so confusing to me is it the scrapbook tape you get # 56720 A
So sorry to be such a pest and thank you for responding. I just truly love all you do on your blog.

  • Nanci, it's no problem at all. I have the link bookmarked since I know I'll forget by the time I need to place an order again. Yes, that's the tape I buy. Here's the link. thetapedepot.com/products/scrapbooking-tape-56720-a.html
