Hello friends! January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. It’s probably a disease many people don’t think about very often. But did you know that over 3 million people in the United States have glaucoma? It’s called the “sneak thief of sight” because there are no symptoms and once the vision is lost, it’s gone for good. According to the World Health Organization, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world. While there is currently no cure, vision loss can be slowed or prevented with early detection.
I was diagnosed with glaucoma in my 30’s. I’m so grateful for medical advancements that made it possible to detect the disease in the early stages. Hopefully, someday soon, a cure will be found.
I share this with you as a reminder to get your eyes checked every year. It’s a simple and pain-free test. And it just may save your sight.
Last year around this time, I was having my first glaucoma surgeries. The procedure was successful and I was able to discontinue all of my medications. Yay! I still have regular check ups to monitor the disease and my pressures have remained stable over the year.
It has become an annual tradition for me to make a glaucoma awareness card. I give the cards to my eye doctor. He likes to display them at the clinic and on their website.

Since I was sick for a couple weeks this month, I kept my card very simple. I used some older pattern paper and retired ribbon dies.
Sketch – MFT #430 Sentiment – Computer generated Ribbon dies – Paper Smooches (company is closed) Peel Offs – Love From Lizi White gel pen – PANDAFLY Pattern paper – unknown

When products are purchased through these links, I receive a small commission that does not affect the price you pay. I am not an expert and all opinions are my own. I find joy creating cards and videos and I love sharing them with my viewers.
Thanks for visiting my blog today. I appreciate your kindness and support! 💗
Glad you can see well and you are off the medication. My mother and grandfather both had glaucoma. I think it must be hereditary, so my eyes are checked regularly. Thanks for talking about it and letting people know more.
I was waiting for this post! I am so thankful that you are doing well after your surgeries last year and able to be off all of your meds. Thank you for continuing to share your card inspiration with us!!
Congratulations on being able to be off all your medications! That’s fantastic. Just had my annual eye exam and all is well. I think it’s great that you give these cards to your eye doctor. Great way to promote the cause! Thanks for the beautiful reminder.
I am so glad to hear you are off all your meds! I am also glad you were monitored so early so you could get treatment. And thank you for the reminder–I get checked annually! Love the card and I’m sure it helps with your doctors’ reminders for everyone!
