I love using quilt dies to make cards, especially with the final scraps of 6×6 paper pad. Recently, I’ve had several requests to show how I use the paper scraps with the quilt die.
Using the quilt cover up die from MFT and The Graduates paper collection from Doodlebug Design, I recorded a short tutorial showing how I make paper scrap quilt cards.

Thanks for sharing this, Kristie. I know I commented on YouTube. Thanks for the reply. I should have taken into consideration that you were doing the tutorial with bigger scraps. (slaps self on forehead). In any case, it was really great to see how you think through the process of creating the card. Too bad that paper pad is no longer available since I could use some graduation themed paper this year. I may have to cave and get the pad that is available even though it's not as striking as this one. 🙂 Ah well, I'll figure something out. LOL
Thanks, Jeanne! I had debated about cutting some of the larger scraps into smaller pieces for the tutorial. But I was afraid of wasting the paper. I've had that 6×6 for awhile since I only make a couple graduation cards each year. I should just finish it, then I'll be ahead for next year. I did notice the newer DB graduation collection, Hats Off is available at A Cherry on Top. Not sure what exactly you are looking for, but it has touches of silver foil. 🙂
Thank you for this video–and the tip about running the paper through with the cut side of the die face up! That will sure save me time by not having to detach all the washi tape I usually use! That is a striking card and I love the sentiment!
Thank you, Jennifer! I'm so happy that some of my tips were useful for you. Cutting with the die face up really does make a difference. I think the only cover up die that I usually have to use washi tape is the squared off die from Reverse Confetti. It's a lot of extra work peeling off all that washi tape.
Great card. And I LOVE your idea of putting double stick tape on the back of the quilt frame. I always try to glue each little piece, your idea is so much easier.
Thank you, Debbie! The double stick tape makes it so much easier to put the quilt together. I can't imagine using liquid glue on each piece. 🙂
Last evening was my first attempt at making the quilt cards. I have watched you do it but I needed a video,,,,after a bit of searching I found yours,,,should have known lol I went to two stores to get the right size ds tape, It went pretty good. I used black and white scraps and I accented with bright yellow, I also did a pink one showed up great using a black frame. Looking forward to making patterns with the die!!!! There are some great Christmas ones!!!
Thank you for the video and sharing the talent God has given you!!!!!
Yes, I had so many requests for a video showing how I use scraps with the quilt die, I did make a video. I still love using quilt dies for cards. They have such a nice finished look to them. My favorite quilt dies have faux stitching details. I'm glad you are enjoying using the quilt dies as well. Have a wonderful day! 🙂
This past weekend I made 10 of the quilt cards. It did get easier….I read one comment where you used three coordinating papers, figured that out also…all that is left is actually making the cards!!!!
Awesome, Gerri! I still love making cards using the quilt dies! 🙂
