Hello friends! January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. It’s probably a disease many people don’t think about very often. But did you know that over 3 million people in the United States have glaucoma? It’s called the “sneak thief of sight” because there are no symptoms and once the vision is lost, it’s gone for good. According to the World Health Organization, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world. While there is currently no cure, vision loss can be slowed or prevented with early detection.
I was diagnosed with glaucoma in my 30’s. I’m so grateful for medical advancements that made it possible to detect the disease in the early stages. Hopefully, someday soon, a cure will be found.
I share this with you as a reminder to get your eyes checked every year. It’s a simple and pain-free test. And it just may save your sight.
The disease has progressed in my left eye, so I will be having my first glaucoma surgery soon. It’s supposed to be a simple laser surgery. But since I don’t know exactly how I will react to the surgery or how long I will need to recover, I will be going off screen for a bit. This includes YouTube, my blog and all social media platforms.
I used some Doodlebug pattern papers and the Stacked Edges dies by Pretty Pink Posh for my card. For a little extra sparkle, I framed the card using Love From Lizi Peel Offs.

As always, thank you for your tutorial. But I also wanted to thank you for telling your story about glaucoma. My husband has a pre-glaucoma condition, which was also detected during a routine eye exam when he was 40. Many associate this disease with older people, not realizing it can hit any time. I wish you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
I’m so sorry to hear your husband may develop glaucoma. I was suspect for the disease since my late 20’s. Take goodness for medical advancements to help detect the disease early.
I love the card and your yearly reminder! It is a disease no one really thinks about unless they are affected by it. I wish you luck and success in your surgery and hope you have a fast and painless recovery!! 🙂
Thank you, Jennifer! I sure didn’t give the disease much thought until the doctor started to get concerned. Thank goodness for medical advancements to detect and treat the disease. Now, we just need a cure.
Dear Kristie,
Praying for the skillful surgeon and your complete and speedy recovery.

Hello Kristie,
I was diagnosed with glaucoma in my 30’s, will be 70 this year. This is a note to hopefully bring you comfort toward your laser surgery. Although every person in this world may have a different outcome. I have had the surgery SEVERAL times with no problems and no down time in life. My prayer will be that you experience the same end results.
Thank you for sharing your glaucoma story with me. It does bring me comfort knowing you have had success with surgery. I know this was the first of many surgeries for me. The procedure was uncomfortable, but not bad. After the first day, I was feeling pretty good. The hope is that I will be able to discontinue all or some of the medications I am currently using. I’m up to 3 now and they are really rough on my eyes. I now suffer from dry eyes as well because of all the glaucoma medications. It’s the dry eyes that bring me so much discomfort. I pray the disease will continue to be managed for you. 🙂
Hi Kristie, Prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery. Will look forward to your return.
Thank you so much, Joanne!
Love your card. Praying your surgery will go well and you will be back to making your wonderful cards and videos soon. Take care.
Thank you so much, Deb!
