I’m a big Project Life fan. I have been doing a picture-a-day album since 2009 and in 2013 switched from traditional scrapbooking to Project Life pocket page scrapbooking. I’m still recording our stories, but I’m no longer “behind” in scrapbooking. The switch has also given me more time to make cards for Operation Write Home.
Over the past several years, my Project Life kits seem to be growing faster than I have been using them. So storage had become an issue. I tried a few different ideas, but nothing really worked for me. I wanted something where all my cards could be stored together, but it didn’t seem to exist yet. So, I drew up a simple sketch of what I wanted and showed it to my father, asking if he could build it for me. After a couple of months, here is my finished Project Life organizer.
And here are the pictures for those who prefer to see those instead.
I had my father include a shelf on the bottom to store my big boxes of page protectors, some extra school mini kits, the Just Add Color kits, and a few smaller size page protectors.
The cards are stored upright so they are easy to flip through to find the perfect one. The dividers are removable so I can change the configuration if I want.
I wanted the drawers to be able to pull out completely. I currently have 16 core kits, 6 mini kits, and lots of theme kits in the top 2 drawers.
I also wanted room to grow. The third drawer is empty as I wait for the new Strawberry and Azure core kits to be released. The organizer is also on wheels and fits perfectly underneath my craft table so that it can be tucked out of the way when not in use. I absolutely LOVE it! Thank you, Dad!
After Becky Hiiggins posted a picture of me sharing a picture of the almost completed organizer on her Facebook page, I know many people have inquired if my father would be making more. I’m sorry, but he’s not taking orders. Woodworking is a hobby of his, and he was so kind to make this unit for me. It definitely took awhile to complete.
Thanks for visiting my blog today!
Very cool!! That is awesome!!
That is sooo cool. I think your thank you note was posted on Becky's FB today 🙂
It is my card, Tommi. I gave it to Becky at CHA, but never imagined she would post it on Facebook. I even used PL cards to make the thank you card.
I love this!! What a sweet and talented Dad you have!! I know you treasure that!! Is there any way you can share the width and depth of the complete cabinet and the drawers? I have someone that makes custom cabinets like that that I may be able to get to make it if I could give him some general guidelines. Thanks in advance if you have the time to share! 🙂
What a great addition to your craft room. You did a great job custom designing it and to have it lovingly handcrafted by your father makes it an extra special heirloom.
What an awesome and sweet dad you have Kristie! He did a fabulous job on it and look at how organized you are! I can't even imagine your father making these for people, that's a lot of detail in this project and he would have to charge a great deal. Best he made it just for you, handcrafted by his hand. I love it though and love how organized you are. Enjoy and think of your dad every time you used this wonderful organizer! Hugs, Brenda
Would your dad make more of these?
Love it
You have a great dad to make this. Love your site.
Great idea for cards
Thank you, Carolanne! I still love my Project Life organizer. But sorry, my dad has no plans on making anymore. It was definitely a lot of work for him.
